How do I Close a Credit Card Account at CitiFinancial?

How do I Close a Credit Card Account at CitiFinancial?

A credit account is like wielding a double-edged sword. On one side, the account helps you build credit and manage your finances a little easier. On the other side, it may be tempting to spend more than you can pay off and you could find yourself in debt. Further, having too many open credit accounts can hurt your credit score. CitiFinancial is a faction of the Citi-group and it loans out credit to consumers. If you no longer want your CitiFinancial credit account, consider canceling it.

Instructions

    1

Pay off your account in full before contacting CitiFinancial.

    2

Contact a customer service representative at CitiFinancial by calling 800-995-2274. Alternatively, call the numbers listed on the back of your credit card or on your account statement.

    3

Verify that your account has a zero balance. Ask the representative at CitiFinancial to cancel your account. Do not accept incentives, such as lower rates or a larger credit line; be adamant that you want your account closed.

    4

Send a confirmation letter to CitiFinancial asking the lender to verify that your account is closed. Wait at least one month and check your credit report; it should show that your account with CitiFinancial is no longer open.
