How to Sign Up for Unemployment in Tennessee

If you have lost your job in Tennessee, you may qualify for unemployment benefits. In order to qualify for unemployment compensation, you need to have lost your job through no fault of your own. You also need to have worked in the state of Tennessee in the past 18 months. It is okay if you also worked in another state during that period. As of November 2010, the state of Tennessee offers only two ways to apply for unemployment benefits.

Instructions

    1

Gather up your employment history details for the previous 18 months. You need to have the names, addresses and phone numbers of all the employers you had during that period. If you have your last paycheck stub from the employers, get out those as well.

    2

Apply for unemployment in Tennessee on the Tennessee Department of Labor website. You must enter in your employment history on the application.

    3

Call the Tennessee Unemployment Insurance claims center to apply for unemployment at 615-253-0800, if you are in the Nashville area, or 877-813-0950 outside Nashville. The representative will ask for your employment history.
