If you have an RV that you don't use enough to justify paying on every month you may decide to consign it for rent or sale. Consignment rental is an option if you owe more on your RV than it can be sold for. Consignors find a qualified buyer or renter for your vehicle. All you need to do is fill out a consignment contract with a reputable consignment company.
Vehicle Information
The contract will require all the details on the RV, including the year, make and model. You must provide the license plate number and expiration date. Identify the VIN and how many miles you have on the RV. Disclose if there have been smokers or pets in the vehicle and if the RV has had more than one owner. List the engine specifications, generator information and transmission details. You must also include your personal information, including your full name, phone numbers, address and email address.
Sale
The contract will have sales conditions, including the minimum sales price. Consignment companies must list their consignment fees on the contract also. You must decide if you will pay for repairs once the consignee has the RV, because repairs may be necessary to sell the vehicle. You will find conditions that describe who is responsible for damage and loss of the RV while it is in the consignee's care. You will need to maintain the RV's insurance until it is actually sold. Finally, add a condition that you can pick up the RV at any time and list how much notice you will give the consignee before pickup.
Final Details
You must provide the original title before the sale is completed. If you still owe money on the RV, you will have to wait until the RV is purchased and your loan is paid before surrendering the title to the new owner. There may be a minimum consignment period, such as 30 days, where the consignee has the sole right to sell your RV. Check propane, gasoline and waste tank requirements. Sign and date the consignment contract and get a copy for your records with the consignee's signature on it.
Consignment Rental
Your consignment rental contract will specify the percentage of the income you will receive. It will tell you what type of insurance you will need to carry. All the services, including money collection, promotion, storage, repairs and tax reports, must be included in the contract. Owner's responsibilities are also listed and may include keeping the vehicle in operating condition, replacing brakes and other general repairs and maintenance. Identify your usage rights, including how much time you must give before you take your own RV out. Determine how long you want the consignment and who sets the rental rates. Any fees, such as credit card fees, must be outlined in the consignment contract.
