How to Gain Access to Your Credit Report

The Fair Credit Reporting Act guarantees you easy access to your credit reports. You can order your credit reports -- for free -- from each of the nationwide credit bureaus through the website Annual Credit Report. You're entitled to three free credit reports every 12 months. During that time, you can order one from each of the nationwide credit bureaus. The Federal Trade Commission says Annual Credit Report is the only website officially authorized to offer free reports under federal law.

Instructions

    1

Visit www.annualcreditreport.com. Select your state, then click on "Request Report."

    2

Enter your personal information to establish your identity. Continue following the prompts to order your credit report for free. Order from either Equifax, Experian, or TransUnion or from all three credit bureaus.

    3

Order by telephone if you would rather not transmit your personal information over the Internet. Call 877-322-8228 and submit to a simple verification process to receive your credit report from either or all of the credit bureaus.
