How to Find Out How Much You Owe Creditors

How to Find Out How Much You Owe Creditors

Once enough time has passed and you have not paid a debt, a creditor will be contacted to get the money from you. Usually there will be a letter in the mail explaining the situation and often a phone call. If you are not contacted by the creditors, you have recently moved or you want to see what other debts might be out there, you can check your credit reports. Everyone is entitled to a free credit report from all three major credit agencies once a year.

Instructions

    1

Go to the Annual Credit Report website at www.annualcreditreport.com, and choose your state of residency.

    2

Click "Request report," and fill out all your personal information, including current and previous addresses.

    3

Navigate through all three online reports for a list of your current creditors. You will see any credit cards, loans and other credit agencies (including creditors).

    4

Write down the name of the agencies and the contact information listed on your report. The debt owed will be listed on the report, but you should call each agency to verify the correct debt amount.
