How to Check My Credit History in the United Kingdom

If you live in the United Kingdom, you need to maintain good credit just as you would in the United States or Canada. Part of maintaining borrowing power is checking your credit history. Fortunately, checking your credit in the UK is a simple process. Two of the three main credit-reporting agencies in the United States also have operations in the United Kingdom.

Instructions

    1

Visit Experian's UK website. On the order form, enter your personal information and submit the form to access your credit report. Experian charges a fee for accessing your credit file, although you can get your first report for free by purchasing a subscription.

    2

Log on to the Equifax UK site. Like Experian, Equifax has an online order form you can use to access your credit history. Complete the form and pay the fee with a credit or debit card to obtain your credit report. You can also sign up for a monthly subscription, which allows you to obtain your first report at no cost.

    3

Compare the information on both credit reports. Not all creditors report to both agencies, so you may find entries on one report that do not appear on the other. Look for any erroneous information so you can contact the reporting agencies to have it removed.
