How to Register a Prepaid Gift Card

Prepaid gift cards are widely available and can be used wherever cards bearing their logo (Visa or Mastercard, for example) are accepted. For most prepaid gift cards, the first time you use a card you are registering it. If you want to use it for an online purchase for the first use, you must register the card first. Registration also helps you to keep track of the available funds on the card.

Ask the cashier where you purchase the gift card if she can go ahead and register it. Many stores that sell gift cards can register them at the time of checkout.

Look at the back of the card. If the card can be registered online, a website address will be on the back. If there is a toll free number, then typically you will have to call the number to register your card.

Contact the issuer of the card, either by phone or via the Internet. Have available the card number and the security code. The security code is the three-digit number on the end of the signature strip of the card.

Input the information online or relay information to a customer service professional. To register your card, you will also need to give your home address. Your card will now be registered and ready for use.
