Visa is one of the most recognizable brands in credit card lending. While it used to be reserved strictly for unsecured credit lending, the Visa logo is now found on a wide variety of bank check cards or debit cards. If you recently opened a checking account, your old card expired or you are replacing a lost or stolen card, you will need to activate it once you receive it. This can be done online at most banks.
Instructions
- 1
Check to make sure the card actually belongs to you once you receive it. Check the name on the card and the account number listed on the documents sent to you with the new Visa card.
2Create an online banking profile at your bank, if you do not have one. You will need your name, address, Social Security number, date of birth, account number, e-mail address and phone number. You will also need to create an unique user ID and password, both of which must be easily recalled. Verify your online account by clicking the verification e-mail sent to you.
3Log in to your account. Choose the checking account tied to the new Visa check card (if you have more than one account open with the same bank). Click on "Customer Service." There should be a drop down list (or new screen) with a list of options.
4Choose the option that relates to "check cards," "activation," reward programs," or "account settings." You may need to try a couple options before you find the correct screen.
5Enter the new Visa check card number when prompted. Enter your name, Social Security number and date of birth. You will likely be given at least two challenge questions to verify your identity. Answer all security questions. Click "activate" once finished with identification. Your new Visa check card is activated.
