How to Activate a Walgreens Gift Card

Walgreens stores sell gift cards to customers who want to give a gift. When you purchase a gift card at Walgreens, you can choose to put any denomination on the card; your gift could be as large or as small as you want. To purchase a gift card, you have to take it to the Walgreens register and pay for it. You don't have to pay for the gift card itself, only the funds you want on the card.

Choose the Walgreens gift card you want to purchase online or in person at any Walgreens location. Take the gift card to the checkout counter.

Hand the cashier your gift card so she can scan it. Tell the cashier how much money you want placed on the gift card -- unless you chose a gift card with a predetermined denomination already on the card.

Pay for your card using cash, credit card or check. Once your card is scanned and paid for by the cashier at checkout, it is activated. However, you should keep the receipt just in case the cashier made a mistake and the card does not activate. This way you can prove the gift card was legally purchased and have the funds added to the card and the card activated.
