How to Sell Your Car Hauler

Car haulers can carry just one car to several cars. Whether you have a large professional car hauler or a small hobby trailer, such as a race car hauler, you can sell the car hauler on your own when you no longer need it. Selling a car hauler is similar to selling a vehicle or RV. While you can advertise the trailer in your local newspaper, better results may come from more targeted ads in specialty publications.

Instructions

    1

Take photos of your car hauler. If your car hauler is an enclosed hauler, take the photos from different angles as well as inside photos.

    2

Write down the specifications of the trailer, such as size, make, model, year, hitch type, number of axles, condition and features. Features that the hauler may have include interior lighting, roof vents and brakes. If you have an idea of how many miles you have put on the trailer, include that detail as well.

    3

Browse current car hauler listings to see what similar trailers are selling for. Since a blue book or value guide for car haulers does not exist, checking current selling prices helps you determine the value of your car hauler. Places to check ads include the websites for Auto Hauler Shopper, Trailer Shopper, RV Trader Online and Race Car Magazine.

    4

Place an ad on one or more of the car hauler websites. Prices vary from free to $49.95. Use the specifications you wrote down to create your ad. Upload the photos you took to include with the ad as well. Include a phone number or email address in the ad so that prospective buyers can contact you easily.

    5

Fill out a bill of sale form once you have a buyer for the car hauler. The Butler County Kansas website (bucoks.com) has a free generic bill of sale form that you can use in any state. Download and print it out if you need a form. Make a copy of the form for yourself and give the buyer the original to serve as receipt of purchase. When you give the buyer the bill of sale, you must also sign over the title for the trailer.
