Living in debt can take a major toll on a person's emotional well-being. Being in debt is stressful, as it often feels like a never-ending cycle that is impossible to get out of. Reducing debt is not an easy process, as it takes a lot of hard work and sacrifice to do. There are several ways you can dramatically lessen your debt by making simple adjustments in your life

Get a Second Job

    If you currently only work one job, getting a second, part-time one can help you earn extra income to get out of debt. Even if you only work one extra day a week, by putting all of the money you make at that job directly toward paying off your late bills, credit cards or loans, you can drastically reduce your overall debt over time.

Cancel Your Cards

    As you pay off each credit card in its entirety, cancel it. Having a surplus of credit cards can easily lead to more overspending, which in turn can lead to incurring even more debt. By canceling each credit card as it is paid, you will reduce the total amount of debt and avoid new debt from building.

Stick to Necessities

    While seeing a movie every weekend or stopping by the coffee shop on your way to work each day are certainly nice luxuries, these non-necessities will easily keep you in debt. To reduce your debt, cut back or eliminate luxuries from your life and instead apply the money toward paying off your debt.

Change Your Living Situation

    If you are in a position where you can take on a roommate or downgrade to a cheaper place of residence, these are two ways you can easily reduce your debt. If you begin splitting rent with a roommate for example, your living expenses will be cut in half, leaving you with twice as much money to apply toward paying off your debt.
