How to Become a Certified Credit Counselor

As credit has become more readily available to consumers, the need for certified credit counselors has risen. With so much easy credit, consumers are quickly finding out that it is easy to get in over their heads. When a consumer's monthly income is not sufficient to meet their monthly debt obligations, or just enough to barely cover them, they may turn to a certified credit counselor for assistance. As a result, more individuals are choosing to enter the field since the demand for their services is so high. Read on to learn how to become a certified credit counselor.

    Open up your web browser and go to the National Association of Certified Credit Counselors (NACCC) website.

    Click on the "Certification" link located in the menu bar.

    Read the information about the different certifications offered. In addition to providing a certification track for credit counseling, the NACCC also offers a senior credit counselor certification, financial health certification and a debt settlement specialist certification.

    Click the "Learn More" link located in the Credit Counselor Certification section. Read the information about the self-study package, the certification exam and the review seminar.

    Read the outline of the self-study course by clicking on the "Download Outline" link in section one. If the outline opens in your current browser window, press the back button after you have completed reading it in order to continue. If the outline opens in a new browser window, simply go back to the self-study course information window.

    Click the back button on your browser after you have read all of the information regarding the NACCC Credit Counselor Certification program.

    Select the "Enroll" link and fill out the requested information. Once you have entered your order information, click on the "Submit Order" button.

    Study for the exam once you receive your materials. After sufficient study time, go back to the NACCC website and register for your exam. Once you have passed your exam, you will be an NACCC Certified Credit Counselor.
