How to Dispute a Late Fee at Sears

How to Dispute a Late Fee at Sears

Sears is a department store that sells a variety of goods and services. Sears offers credit cards as an alternate form of payment for consumers who qualify. At times, you may incur a late fee because of a forgotten payment or an occasional error on behalf of Sears. Thus, you may decide to dispute the late fee.

Instructions

    1

Call the Sears credit card customer service line (1-800-917-7700) and explain that you've incurred a late fee and would like to have it removed due to a mishap. The representative will ask for either your account number, social security number, or verification of answers to the security questions associated with the account.

    2

Speak to a supervisor if the service representative does not offer to remove the fee. Sears allows customers a maximum of two courtesy late fee adjustments per year.

    3

Explain the situation that caused you to incur a late fee even if you have already used the two courtesy fee removals. Sears may remove additional late fees if the reason qualifies as a "late fee removal exception". Sears will not release information regarding what qualifies as an exception; this is internal information.

    4

Check to make sure the amount of the fee is credited into the account after 48 hours. If not, call the customer service line and explain the situation.
