Collections agencies who constantly call you about unpaid debts can push your stress level into high gear. One way to stop these annoying calls is to send a cease and desist letter to the third=party creditors who are then required to stop calling you.
Instructions
- 1
Position your name and mailing address in the top right corner of your letter. Use single spacing for each line.
2List the creditor's name and mailing address two spaces down from your own on the left side of the draft. Skip two spaces.
3Print the date at the time of writing on the left side of your document. Skip two spaces.
4Begin your correspondence with "Hello", "Greetings" or "To Whom it May Concern" directly under the date. Skip two spaces.
5Introduce yourself briefly and reference the account number and the original creditor which is connected to your case. All your paragraphs will begin at the left margin. Skip two spaces.
6Write specifically that you are requesting the agency to cease and desist all communications with you. Cite the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), which states you are entitled to take this step to prevent further contact. Skip two spaces.
7Conclude your correspondence with a simple "Thank you for your prompt attention." Skip two spaces.
8Type "Sincerely" then skip two spaces and print your name. Use a black pen to sign your name in the space between the closing and your printed name.
