How to Send Letters to Creditors

When negotiating with creditors, it is best to communicate through the mail in order to have proof of the conversation and verification that letters were received. Speaking to your creditors through the mail also keeps you from feeling intimidated during a phone call and agreeing to something you will later regret. Always keep copies of all correspondence between yourself and your creditors to help protect yourself should the need arise.

Instructions

    1

Make a copy of the letter you are sending your creditor. File the copy of the letter in your personal records by date and to whom the letter was sent.

    2

Attach a return receipt postcard to the envelope. These are found at your local post office. You must address the card with the creditor and your personal address.

    3

Pay the postage of your letter and keep the receipt. File the receipt along with the copy of the letter you sent.

    4

File the return receipt postcard once it arrives in your mail. The postcard should be attached to the copy of the letter and the receipt for postage.
