How to Load Money on a NetSpend Prepaid Card

Unlike debit cards that are tied to your bank account, the NetSpend Visa card serves as a prepaid card that can be loaded with money. The NetSpend Visa card is a good choice if you don't have a bank account or if you wish to use a separate card for certain purchases, such as gasoline or groceries. If you wish to continue using your NetSpend card after your funds run out, you can do so by reloading the card at retailers that offer NetSpend reload services.

Instructions

    1

Visit the NetSpend reload center page (see Resources). Select both your state and city or enter your ZIP code. Click "Search." A list of reload locations will appear both on a map and on the page in the form of a list.

    2

Look through the list of reload locations and the reload services offered at each location. Choose a location that is listed as either a "Reload Location" or offers a "Reloadable Debit Card" service. A reload location allows you to reload the card with either cash or by using MoneyGram, Western Union or a reload kiosk. Reloadable debit card locations offer reload packs that you can use to reload your card online. Some locations serve as a reload location and offer NetSpend reload packs.

    3

Click "Instructions" next to stores that are reload locations. A window will appear and provide instructions for reloading your card at that location. If you pay with cash, you cannot load more than $500 at any retailer. Some retailers restrict the reload amount to less than $500.

    4

Visit the retailer of your choice. If you purchase a reload pack, you can enter the reload number and your NetSpend account number via the NetSpend reload pack page (see Resources). If you reload your card using any other method, you'll likely see the money appear in your NetSpend account within 30 minutes.
