How to Find Out if I Owe Back Child Support in Texas

In the state of Texas, if you owe back child support, you must know the exact amount owed so that you can make arrangements to bring your account up-to-date. You can determine the amount of arrears owed online through the Texas Attorney General's online tool or by calling the state's child support hotline. The tool can also be used to obtain case status, view payments and to update your personal information. The online tool is accessible throughout the year, except during periods of maintenance.

    Visit the Texas Attorney General's website and access the "Child Support Interactive" online tool (see Resources).

    Select "Noncustodial Parent Login" from the top menu.

    Enter your member ID in the appropriate field. The member ID can be found on mailings from the Texas Attorney General Child Support Division. You can also contact the office at 800-252-8014 and request your member ID. The number will be mailed to the mailing address on file with your case.

    Enter the last four digits of your Social Security number in the "SSN" field. Click "Login."

    Scroll down to the "Arrears" section of the "Payments/Case Status" screen. The amount listed in the amount of back child support owed.

    Call the Texas Attorney General Child Support Division's hotline at 800-252-8014.

    Select the language you would like to hear the information in by pressing the corresponding key on your phone.

    Select "Noncustodial Parent" when prompted. Press "1" to hear the status of your case.

    Enter your member ID number and the last four digits of your Social Security number.

    Listen to the review of your case and the amount of back child support owed.
