How to Check Your Underage Son's Credit Report

How to Check Your Underage Son's Credit Report

You probably know that you are entitled to one free credit report each year from all three major credit bureaus, and you might even check your own credit report annually. But did you know that your children also are entitled to their reports? If you want to check your underage child's credit report for mistakes or evidence of identity theft, you can request copies of his report. But it is a little more difficult than asking for copies of your own.

Instructions

    1

Make three copies of your child's Social Security card. The credit bureaus will use this to verify your underage son's identity.

    2

Write three letters, one to each credit bureau (Experian, TransUnion, and Equifax) saying that you are requesting a copy of your son's credit history on his behalf. Include his Social Security number and your home address.

    3

Address three envelopes in the following manner:

    Experian
    P.O. Box 2104
    Allen, TX 75013

    TransUnion
    2 Baldwin Place
    P.O. Box 2000
    Chester, PA 19022

    Equifax
    P.O. Box 740241
    Atlanta, GA 30374

    4

Send a copy of the letter to each of the three major credit bureaus. Include a copy of your son's Social Security card in each one.
