How to Dispute Credit with Transunion

How to Dispute Credit with Transunion

Your credit report and credit score play a huge role in determining if you will qualify for a loan or credit card and in some cases even landing your dream job. It is more essential than ever to make sure there are no credit inaccuracies on your credit report.

Instructions

    1

There are three major credit reporting bureaus: Transunion, Experian, and Equifax. If you have items to dispute on your credit report with one or more of the credit bureaus, you must file with each bureau individually. Each bureau has its own dispute process. To file a dispute with Transunion, you have three ways to go about it: online, by phone or by mail.

    2

File your credit dispute online for the fastest method to get it processed. To submit a dispute online with Transunion, simply go to Annualcreditreport.transunion.com/entry/disputeonline.

If you don't already have an account with Transunion, you will need to create one. Simply type in your personal information, create a username and password. For security, you may be asked some verification questions. Once your profile is completed, you will be able to file your dispute with the online form. Your dispute creates an order form, and there is no charge. You will also be able to come back later to check the dispute status.

    3

If you prefer to speak with a live person, you can dispute a credit item or items with Transunion by phone. Call 1-800-916-8800 between the hours of 8 a.m. and 11 p.m. Eastern Time, Monday through Friday, excluding major holidays. Have at the ready your current Transunion credit report, the account number of the account you are disputing, name of the company and the reason for the dispute. Be ready to provide your personal information as well such as your social security number, date of birth, and current address and phone number.

    4

To file your dispute by U.S. Mail, you must have Adobe Reader(R). Download and print a copy of the Request for Investigation to fill out. Fill in all the required information. If you are including copies of bank or credit statements, be sure not to include the original. Makes copies of everything you mail in. I highly recommend sending priority with delivery confirmation. This method may take a little longer, up to 45 days to get a response.

    Mail your form to:
