How to Apply for the Making Home Affordable Government Stimulus Program

Owe more on the house than what is is worth, or you are under water or have negative equity in your home, the new Making Home Affordable Government Stimulus Plan has now been put into place to help you. This plan has started as of March 3, 2009. With this new plan, people who are losing their home due to the inability to pay, or those who are paying more for their house than what it is worth, will be able to refinance at a much lower mortgage rate.If you make your mortgage payments on time with this mortgage program, you may be eligible to receive cash incentives.

    The government has set up two websites to help homeowners to either refinance their mortgage at a lower rate, or apply for additional time or monies to help pay their existing mortgage. You want to go to one, or both of the websites listed below under Resources, and put in an application.

    Be sure when you are looking for the program, or call about the Government Stimulus Program for homeowners that you tell them the name of the program in which you are interested. The correct name for the program is "Making Home Affordable."

    It is probably better to put in your application online, since the phone lines may be backed up with callers. You can call call 1-800-FED-INFO (333-4636) to get more information from HUD on different programs.

    Look in Resources below for links to the HUD website and the United States Department of Treasury website where you can put in an application for the Making Home Affordable Homeowner Affordability and Stability Plan that President Obama and the current administration has now implemented.
